Orthopedic insole

At M'hango Therapist Plus, orthopedics insoles are used to support therapy. There are systems from the brands Igli, Formthotics, Footwave and Vasyli. They allow a variety of modifications to adapt the insole to the individual needs of the patient.

How do I look after my insoles?

Like any object, insoles wear out over time. To prolong its life, it is important to remember a few basic rules:

  1. the insole can be moved from shoe to shoe, so always make sure that it is inserted in the correct side - left to left shoe. Inserting insoles the other way round will result in irreparable damage to the insole, making further use completely impossible!
  2. The insole should be snug against the heel counter. Each part of the insole has an effect on a different structure in the foot, so its positioning is crucial to its effectiveness.
  3. Avoid overfitting the shoe or getting a lot of debris in the insole: there is a risk that the components will become loose and change consistency, which will disqualify the insole from further use.
  4. Avoid drying insoles by a source of heat, even if they are put into shoes. The material from which they are made is susceptible to heat and can change its shape, which reduces or completely destroys the corrective effect of the insole.

How do I prepare for my appointment ?

  1. Orthopedic insoles, because of their size, require properly fitted shoes. For this reason, you should bring to your appointment the shoes that you will use most often to wear your insole.
  2. Footwear should be closed (trekking sandals are acceptable, but light sandals are not suitable for an insole), the heel counter should be stiff and the toe box should be flexible to allow easy bending of the shoe.
  3. Size must be taken into account - the insole has to be a certain length and width in order to work properly, so the shoe should allow freedom of movement of the toes inside and have the right size.
  4. Whatever the problem is, the physiotherapist will need to assess the whole posture, so the patient should be prepared to undress. The presence of skin infections, warts etc. should be advised prior to the appointment as it is possible that the severity of the infection will preclude the selection of an insole.
  5. If the patient has had imaging studies, these should be brought with them.
  6. Orthopedic insoles will need to be checked regularly and you should bring them with you to each appointment along with the footwear in which they are worn

The mechanism of the insoles is based on active stimulation of the foot's positioning during walking and standing, which influences the mechanics of both the lower limbs and the torso. Regular use as prescribed can induce beneficial changes in walking pattern and limb loading.

Thanks to that, the insoles are used in such disorders as:

  • hallux valgus
  • flat feet
  • hollow feet
  • pain in the spine
  • Morton's foot
  • pain in the lower limbs
